Awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in July 2018, Zachry Construction Corporation (ZCC) began work on the Driscoll Bypass U.S. 77 project in Feb. 2019. After nearly ten years, ZCC is back at work in Nueces County constructing hurricane emergency relief routes that direct traffic around Driscoll, Texas, connecting more than 40 miles of roadway.

The project, valued at approximately $118 million, is part of a larger initiative to meet interstate highway standards and improve driver safety along U.S. 77. The project entails constructing a 10.4-mile bypass around Driscoll, which includes the construction of new roadways, interchanges, and frontage roads; repairing existing roadways by milling and overlaying; and constructing 16 bridges that total approximately 1.4 miles.  

The project also involved self-performing the pile driving operation and utilizing A40G articulated tractors with K-Tac 1237 Scraper Pans for a mass haul operation. Notably, this project will implement the use of pre-cast caps for 14 of the 16 bridges assigned, which is first-of-its-kind work for Zachry.
